Travel and other things that Alan and Joyce do...

Switzerland and the Swiss Alps to Paris

Alan and Joyce took a trip to the middle of Europe in June 2023.

Starting with a week in Switzerland, they did a genealogy tour with a local guide around Canton Zurich. Between they have identified more than 500 grandparents with some links to Switzerland, mostly from the late 1200’s to the early 1700’s. Who knew??

Other cities in Switzerland included Bern, Lucerne, Interlaken, Geneva, Lausanne, and Zermatt, as well as Basel. Trains, buses, gondola’s and feet were the main modes of transportation.

They then boarded a Viking long boat In Basel for a cruise along the Rhine and Moselle rivers, ending at Trier, Germany. From there, they took a motorcoach through Luxembourg and France to Paris, ending with a few days there to explore.

The Viking portion of the tour can be seen on this map.

Though they did the reverse of this trip, here’s Viking’s summary:

Pay your respects at the Luxembourg American Cemetery. Discover Roman Trier. Taste Moselle Rieslings and visit the wine town of Bernkastel-Kues. Enjoy scenic cruising past the town of Sankt Goar, home of the Lorelei Rock, and through the Rhine Gorge, a UNESCO Site. Visit fascinating Worms and the university town of Heidelberg. Vineyard-flanked slopes and historic cities, along with hotel stays in Paris and Zürich, make this 12-day cruisetour irresistible.
